Flipping The Script On Things That Suck

How many times in our lives do we encounter things that just plain out suck? Gosh, I'd venture to say these sorts of things happen to all of us on a daily basis. Don't get me wrong, I know the sky ain't falling every single day, but there's just little sucky things that happen to us ALL the time. Things that annoy us, things that cause us to have to change our plans, things that make us want to complain. Things that piss us off. It's really easy, perhaps natural for most of us, to react negatively when these things happen. Of course. Why wouldn't we? Sucky things...well, they just suck. They mess with our heads. However, what if there was an alternative though? What if there was another way? What if there was a way to flip the script on things that suck? Well...there is.

There is no doubt about it. Being able to do this on a regular basis is going to take some discipline. It's gonna take some resolve, and it's gonna take a whole lot of awareness. But, YOU CAN DO IT! You'll feel better too, I guarantee it.

First of all, I want to remind you, most of these "sucky" things that happen in our lives aren't gonna kill you. Heck, most of  'em aren't even gonna change your life all that much. That's the first thing to pound into your head. Step #1. So, your boss told you that you've gotta work late on Saturday? You didn't win that Ebay auction of that useless trinket you've been watching all week? You spilled your coffee on your white work shirt? Yes, all of those things blow, but none of these things are the end of the world.

Here's the part where the magic happens. Step #2. I want you to start looking at all these little things that happen to you in a different light. I want you to take the bull by the gonads and flip the script on all those shitty things that suck. I want you to be able to look at each and every one of those things as events that have changed your "timeline". I want you to look at them and contemplate the reality that you really don't know what each of those events will equate to. Furthermore, I want you to be able to say this to yourself each time one of those sucky things happens:

What if something really positive comes about from this?

Learn to start thinking on those terms. In fact, learn to EXPECT good things to come about from these moments. Get really good at re-wiring your brain to work this way. I cannot tell you how profound of an impact this will have.

Think about your life for a bit. What positive has come about as a result of an "unfortunate" turn of events? I'm sure you can think of something. You may not have known it at the time, but when you have the luxury of hindsight, you are able to see the point here.

Your boss told you that you've gotta work late on Saturday? What if by you working late, this arrives you later to the gas station where you bought that winning lottery ticket? $1000 bucks?! Woo!

You didn't win that Ebay auction of that useless trinket you've been watching all week? What if you lost this auction and you win one the next week for the same item in a color you liked better for a cheaper price?

You spilled your coffee on your white work shirt? Ok, well that sucks. But now you go to the mall to find a replacement and you meet a hot chick at the register who you end up shagging the week later? Whoa! How cool...that never would have happened if you didn't spill the coffee on your shirt.

I hope you can see what I am getting at here. Power of mind perhaps. Positive thinking at it's finest? Sure. All of that. I like to think of it as flipping the script on life. You have the power to do it. You've just gotta be aware of it. So, now you know. No more excuses.

Please do this. I'm tired of hearing you bitch.

Just kidding haha. Love you.
