The Daily Battle

 


If you think that wars and battles are solely waged in the physical realm of our world on an occasional or temporary basis, think again. Make no mistake about it, there is a war going on every single day. This is the war taking place within your mind. A daily battle ensues each time you wake up and start your day. A war between the positive and negative. In every regard, a true showdown between good and evil. 

This battle between positive thought and the negative is not always an easy one to wage, but fight you must. Your livelihood depends on it. Your success. Your everything. The most important thing you've got to fight for...your happiness.

It does indeed take effort, and LOTS OF IT. Many days, we find ourselves waking up in a bad mood over this, that, and the other. Whatever the hell it is that's eating you in life right now. The things that are robbing you of your happiness. This is your enemy. This is what you are up against. This is what you've got to fight. The things that are telling you bad things about yourself. The things that are bringing you down. The things that convince you that life sucks, just to name a few. Yes, all those things.

It takes a CONSCIOUS effort, on a DAILY basis. It doesn't just happen on its own. That's the rub here. That's the thing that you have got to remember. Most of us don't just wake up happy unfortunately. You HAVE to put in some work here. No not with your muscles, completely with your mind.

I want you to think about your day today. Your week. Your time since the beginning of this year. I want you to be honest with yourself. Have you lost the fight more of these days than not this year? How do you feel about that? I sincerely hope you have won this battle a greater amount of days in your existence. However, if you haven't, I want you to reflect on this statistic.

A little mental tool I use in this rigorous combat is that of visualization. When I wake up with these nagging negative thoughts running through my mind, I literally imagine myself with a heavy spiked club in hand. I use this instrument of control and start bludgeoning the ever living shit out of the negative thought, whatever it is that's attacking me. I see myself beating the thing back, into deep submission, and death. I beat relentlessly until it's pulp. Like some sort of crazed barbarian. That is how I attack these things. I see this in my mind. I feel myself winded after all the efforts I have exerted. All the aggression I had has been exhausted. Then I see the fruits of my labor. A clear mind, free from the negative, and a clear day ahead of me. Glad I don't have to listen to "that" anymore. I say these words to myself to affirm my objective: "You are not going to lose the battle today. Today is going to be a good day. Today is going to be a positive day for me. I refuse to lose the fight today. NOT TODAY."

You don't have to take my tack, but you have got to come up with some sort of way to make mental combat. Whatever it is that works for you. You find it, and you use it every single day.

No battle is won without some measure of exertion. You have got to remember this each day of your life. It takes a concerted effort to maintain a healthy mind space. It takes work. Part of your objective while you are on the Earth is winning the battle more of the days of your life than not. We all know that you can't win the battle every single day, but God damn it, you've gotta try. So much of your life relates to the outcome of this battle.

 Know this too. You aren't alone. We ALL fight this battle. Every. Single. Day. Some are stronger than others.
