The Grandeur of it All

We all have those periods in life where we feel consumed. Stress, anxiety, emotional storming. These things all add up and certainly put a heavy weight on our souls. I think the thing that most of us would agree on is the sad fact that MOST of the time the sorts of things that are triggering this negativity to occur don't mean jack shit in the grand scheme of things.

I have found it helpful to have small mechanisms to serve as a mental/emotional levelers, or more specifically to remind us of this reality that in the great, grand, humongous universe that we live in, your woes are insignificant.

This is a very personal thing, as what works for me may not work for you. And that's fine. I encourage you to seek out the mechanisms that work well for you. There's likely more than a few that can have a similar effect in your life. Find some good ones, and try to digest them the next time you are feeling down, lost, or discouraged.

I'll just share one of the ones that I use. I like to study astronomy. There's no better way to size up the significance of your drama than to try to stand it up to the great vastness of the universe and all that it is. I find it really calming and relaxing to watch various programs on the solar system, other stars, the galaxy, and the endless space that exists out there. I don't know how else to describe it, but when I give myself a reminder of what I am in the big picture it just has a way of assuaging the negative feelings that I am experiencing. You really realize that the things that you are pining over today mean absolutely NOTHING to the big picture. So stop worrying.

There are many great programs out there that will do this for you. I like watching David Butler. He's got a lot of great content up for you to enjoy. Here's one of my favorites. Check it out. Maybe it will do something for you...
